A garden classic, Clematis 'Jackmanii' is a showy perennial vine offering early to late summer interest. Long-blooming and free-flowering, the plant sets masses of 5-7 inch wide violet-purple flowers with a frilly center of cream. The masses of flowers attract bees, butterflies, and hummingbirds. Dark green leaves stay fresh and attractive all season. Train clematis to climb a trellis, arbor, post, or fence, adding vertical interest. The plant blooms on new wood, so prune in late winter to the ground if desired.
Mature size 8 feet, full to part sun, with roots mulched or in shade. Blooms on new wood, and will generally start flowering in late spring. These should be pruned in late winter or early spring when you see buds begin to swell, cut to the ground if desired. 1 gallon pot from a grower in North Carolina.
